1st Photo-shoot!!

Hey guys,

So last week I did my first photo shoot as a make-up artist. It was so much fun and I wanted to share it with you guys!! I mean there was a lot of work involved and a lot of organising but I was very happy with the end result. I decided for my looks to create geek chic and high fashion. The location was perfect as well. It was located in a nightclub in Cork city. There was a lot of choice for background images for the photos.  For this photo-shoot not only was I in charge of make-up but also location, hair and wardrobe. It gave me a lot of insight into working in the industry and I learned a lot that day. Here are some photos I took from behind the scences of the shoot.   :D

Make up for Black & White Photography

Hey Guys,

In College we have been on the topic of black & white photography. It is a very interesting topic. When deciding on a make up for a black and white photo it’s not so much about the colours used but my about tonal value they have i.e. how light or dark they will show up in the photo. For example one the eyes you could use dark blue, dark green, brown or navy and they would all show up similarly in a black & white photo. It’s all about the effect of highlighting and contouring and the use of lighting. Natural white light is usually best but it can be simulated with different light bulbs.  It is a very flattering way of photographing most people as it can hide a lot of imperfections and also black is more slimming but it can take a bit of practice with highlighting and contouring. Heres how it worked out for me.

What do you think??
Let me know if you give it a go

Winter Favourites 2013 - 2014

Hello Everybody! So it’s finally 2014! Hard to believe it’s here already!! Anyway I thought for my first post of 2014 I would tell you all about all the products I’ve been loving this winter and over the holidays… I also decided to throw in a couple of random favourites as well. I hope u enjoy it :D Most of the products listed below I am wearing in the photo :D x

So to kick off this post I’ll start with….

Face products

Primer
I received a gift of Macs prep & prime skin and I have been in love! It has made my skin feel baby soft!!

Foundation
This winter I’ve been mixing it up between two different foundations. These are the Rimmel Wake me up and Macs face and body. I like face and body for day time. Upon first impressions I was not a fan of this product but after trying it again with my real techniques expert face brush I’ve really started to love it.  Its lighter coverage and natural looking but buildable if you need a little bit extra some days.
I use Rimmel wake me up in Ivory for day-time wear and in the shade True Ivory  for nights out. Even though it has SPF in it I don’t find any glare or white casting in photos.  I am wearing Rimmel Wake me up in Ivory in the photo above

Concealers
My tried and tested Rimmel Wake me up concealer.

Powders
Translucent powder –My Rimmel Stay Matt Powder is still my favourite but at the moment I’m trying out the Catrice Prime& Fine translucent powder. I will let you know how I get on, on first impressions though I like it a lot.
Bronzer –My essence 10 sunkisssed although I’m getting bored of shimmer and have just picked up the Catrice sun glow matt bronzing powder . Again its on trial at the moment but ill let you know how i get on Im really liking it though :D

Eye products

Eye shadow – They palate I’ve been using to death this winter has been my Naked original palate. I just love the golds and bronzes for this time. In the Photos Im wearing Naked, Half - Baked and Virgin.  I did recently purchase the Naked 3 however so I can’t wait to try out more look with it I just haven’t had the time recently

Eyeliners – for liquid liner I have been using Essence, Stays no matter what waterproof eyeliner pencil. I have to say I’m very impressed it really does stay no matter what! Then for pencil eyeliner I have been using either Essence, I Heart rock gloss eye pencil or Avon Colour Trend Kajalskick. I am also wear Essence brown kajal pencil in 08 Teddy and Essence Long lasting eye pencil in 15 Bling Bling

Mascara – I’ve been using two both by Catrice (I’m really loving the line) I use both Lashes to Kill false lashes volume mascara with lash extension fibres and the Lashes to Kill Waterproof Mascara.

Lip Products
The lip combo I have been wearing is a nude one mostly (I am all about the nudes). So the combo I have been loving either one of  two Lipsticks which are Miss Sport 007 or Barry M 101 with Rimmel non-stop glamour!!

Hair Products

Shampoo & Conditioner – I picked up the Oz Botanics line and I have been absolutely loving it!! I love the smell (it smells like the Aussie Line… I think it’s the tanzmanian blue gum) I got the Major Moisture ones and my hair just feels so soft and luxurious after it.

Hair Oil – I’ve been trying out the Hask Keratin Protein Smoothing Oil and I love it. I also purchased the Argon Oil one but have yet to try it. I will do a comparison on them when I do.

Dry Shampoo – I still have yet to find a dry shampoo that beats Batiste Dry Shampoo, Deep & Dark Brown. I have tried but in my opinion it is still the best.

Random Favourite
In December I discovered The coffee Shop Insomnias White hot chocolate which is aptly named Hot Angel. It’s amazing!!! Been absolutely hooked on them over the holiday period!!!

Tell me what you have been loving over this winter!?

Thank you for reading!!!!

Beauty School Blogging - Creating Grazes for Tv / Film

Today I learned about creating grazes / superficial cuts. Look gross huh? Turned out well though

I used Abrasion Blood (fake) Dirt Powder, Scar plastic and mixed yellow and green cream colours from the make-up palate. All Products from Make-up international.

Step 1 - Take fake abrasion blood on a soft / wiry sponge, blot off excess and swipe across where u want the cut to be.

Step 2 - do the same with the dirt powder

Add as much or as little as u like for whatever effect you are trying to create.

for a more gruesome effect add scar plastic on top wait for it to dry (Like 30 Seconds) and paint over it in a yellowy / green.

This is just how my one turned out but it was my first try and i know with a bit more practice i will get more and more realistic !!

What do you think??

Thoughts, Ideas, Make-up, Fashion, Skin care & Beauty School Blogging

wooah its quite a long title....

I wanted to start blogging for a number of reasons...First it looked like fun,
An outlet to express all my ideas and opinions.. and also to share my experiences. Also i thought it would be cool to see if anyone else out there shared them too. Finally I started a Make-up artistry course so it seemed like a great place to chat about my time there.

In September I started a course in make-up artistry. I wanted to take my passion for beauty to the next level… Since beginning then I have learned so much about the world of make-up artistry and decided I wanted to share experience with you guys.  In this course not only do I learn about basic make-up and classic looks. I also learn how to create fashion make-up looks, theatrical looks and different scenes for film and tv ( cuts, brakes, bruises, bullet wounds), I also get to learn all about the skin and how to take care of different skin types.

The only problem is it seems to be passing by so quickly… it’s already the 26th of November and nearly Christmas (29 sleeps!!) so I thought creating this blog would be a great way of acknowledging and sharing my time there.

So guys I hope u enjoy reading !!

My Make-up Face Products I was using for Autumn

Ok so its coming into winter xmas time now..WooHoo!  I love this time of year! I am all about the Knits and faux furs. I love the cozy, but stylish look.

Make-Up Favourites for Autumn

Foundation

Loreal True Match
I love this Foundation, the coverage is medium but buildable, its so blendable. I also love the colour range. It is definatley one of my all-time favourites. I have normal to dry skin but at this time of year it gets more dry so i need a foundation that is not going to settle into those dry patches (eeww right) but with this one i dont feel self conscious and have never had to worry about it. Although i will add a decent enough skin care routine helps this.

Concealer

I have 2 concealers at the moment which im loving. These Two concealers i use on an everyday basis. The first one is the seventeen Phwoarr Paint. This is my heavy duty concealer for redness, and under the eye darkness. I have this in the colour Fair. Next is my Rimmel Wake me up concealer. I use this over foundation for extra coverage and to brighten up the eye area. again i think i have this in the lightest shade but unfortunatly the name has been rubbed off. (well loved :) ).

Translucent Powder

My holy grail powder is the Rimmel Stay Matte Pressed powder. It just finishes the make-up perfectly and gives it the staying power to last all day. Ive tried different powders but so far none have been able to beat it.

Bronzer

The bronzer ive been using lately is the essence sun club for blondes. This was kind of a re-discovery when i ran out of my last bronzer.I havent been blonde in a long time but as i am very fair skinned it works out perfectly for me when im not self-tanning. Its not my ultimate bronzer or holy grail product but it does the job and I have no complaints with the product.
